Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani formally retired from service on July 31, 2025, marking the culmination of a distinguished career in the Indian Army.
Commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles Regiment in December 1985, shortly after graduating from the prestigious National Defence Academy, he devoted nearly 40 years to serving the nation with distinction.
Throughout his career, Lt Gen Subramani demonstrated remarkable strategic insight and operational expertise.
He served in critical regions including the Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir. His leadership greatly helped maintain national security.

He holds a Master of Arts degree from King’s College, London, and an M Phil in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.

Over the years, Lt Gen Subramani held numerous key command, staff, and instructional positions.
His efforts have been central to enhancing the Indian Army’s operational readiness. He also strengthened defence capabilities along India’s western and northern borders.
The Indian Army awarded Lt Gen Subramani the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal (SM), and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in recognition of his exceptional service.
These honours reflect his commitment, bravery, and leadership throughout his career.
As he stepped down from his role as Vice Chief of the Army Staff, the Indian Army expressed profound gratitude for his selfless service and visionary leadership.
He dedicated his tenure to enhancing the strength and capabilities of the forces.
Lt General Pushpendra Pal Singh will become Vice Chief of the Army Staff on August 1, 2025, continuing strong leadership.
