Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi To Visit Jammu

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi  visit Jammu on Saturday to assess the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and in the hinterland. He chairs a joint security review meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Police and other forces at the police headquarters in Jammu.

This visit comes after a recent encounter resulted in the loss of four army soldiers, including a captain. General Dwivedi will receive briefings from commanders and attend a joint security review meeting with other agencies. He may also visit forward positions to gain a firsthand understanding of the situation.

The visit follows a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The army has recently foiled infiltration attempts in the Valley and deployed additional troops to combat terrorism in the Jammu division.

This is General Dwivedi’s second visit to Jammu and Kashmir as the COAS. He has previously served as the head of the Army’s northern command and has extensive experience in handling counterterrorist operations and security issues in the region.

The visit comes amid concerns over the recent surge in terror activities in the Jammu region, and the Army chief’s review expects to provide a boost to the security forces’ efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
