Amritpal Should Surrender: Akal Takht Jathedar’s Message To Radical Preacher Amid Crackdown

Ahead of the dramatic police hunt for the Khalistani leader, Amritpal Singh, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has asked the radical preacher to surrender before the police and cooperate with the further investigation.

Akal Takht Jathedar’s message to Amritpal

The Jathedar of Akal Takht which is the highest temporal seat of Sikhs has also questioned the police’s capability, wondering why the police have not been able to catch the self-styled Sikh preacher who is not even ‘amritdhari’ despite having such a huge police force.

The Jathedar said, “If Amritpal is out (of police net), then I will ask him to present (before police) and cooperate with (police) investigation.”

Harpreet Singh’s remarks come in the wake of the Punjab police crackdown against the Khalistani leader Amritpal and his elements of ‘Waris Punjab De,’ an outfit headed by him.

Since March 8, after the cracker began, Amritpal has been escaping from the police. Several images and videos have shown him taking multiple vehicles to dodge police.

Amritpal, himself gave the police a slip and escaped their police hunt when his cavalcade was intercepted in the Jalandhar district. His whereabouts are still unknown.

The Punjab government has slapped the strictest National Security Act against him and some of his associates.

Whats the police doing?

On Saturday, in a video message, the Jathedar said the biggest question in the mind of every Sikh living across the world is how Amritpal Singh could not be arrested despite a big police force in the state. It raises a question over the functioning of the police, he said.

Further, he said that if the preacher has already been arrested, then the police should say so.

Earlier, the radical preacher’s parents also expressed apprehension that their son had already been held by police.

He also asked police to keep in mind that Sikh youths, who have been held in the Amritpal Singh case, have not committed as big crimes as they have been projected to have committed. Several cases have been registered against the Khalistani leader.

The Akal Takht Jathedar has also called a special gathering of around 60 to 70 Sikh organisations, seminaries and Nihang organisations to discuss the situation in Punjab. No representative of political organisations has been invited.
