Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that factories and industries that shut down or moved out of West Bengal during the rule of the Trinamool Congress would be brought back if the Bharatiya Janata Party forms the next government in the state.
Addressing a rally in Uttarpara in Hooghly district, Shah claimed that several industrial units had either closed or relocated over the past 15 years and alleged that no major investment had taken place during this period. He assured that he would work to persuade industries to return and re-establish operations in the state.
Shah said the BJP would prioritise reviving industrial activity and restoring investor confidence in West Bengal. He emphasised that bringing back factories would be a key part of the party’s economic agenda if it comes to power following the two-phase Assembly elections.
The Union Minister also criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over what he described as rising crimes against women, stating that ensuring women’s safety and empowerment would be a top priority under a BJP government.
At another rally in Hingalganj in North 24 Parganas district, Shah warned against attempts to disrupt polling in the second phase of elections on April 29, issuing a strong caution to those allegedly involved in such activities. He further accused the state government of allowing illegal infiltration from Bangladesh and said that, if voted to power, the BJP would identify and deport such individuals from the country.
The remarks come amid an intensifying political contest in West Bengal, with campaigning gaining momentum ahead of the remaining phase of polling.
