Amit Shah Unveils Anti-Drug Vision 2026-2029; Calls For Ruthless Crackdown

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday called for a technology-driven and uncompromising crackdown on drug traffickers as he unveiled the Narcotics Control Vision Document 2026-2029 during the 10th apex-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) in New Delhi.

Chairing the meeting, Shah urged law enforcement agencies to adopt an intelligence-led, network-centric strategy to combat the growing threat of narcotics. He said collective efforts over the next three years could significantly strengthen India’s fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse.

“We must adopt a technology-driven and intelligence-based approach. A ruthless strategy against drug traffickers is essential to win this battle,” Shah said.

The Minister stressed that the government’s tough stance should target only drug traffickers, while young people affected by addiction must receive compassion, treatment and rehabilitation. He urged officials to intensify efforts towards achieving the vision of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ and improve outcomes over the coming year to strengthen future anti-drug strategies.

Shah also released the NCB Annual Report 2025, inaugurated NCB zonal offices in Jammu and Guwahati, and urged officials to improve performance indicators. He also launched the Online Drug Disposal Fortnight Campaign, praising agencies for destroying seized drugs worth nearly ₹12,525 crore in a single day.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Narcotics Control Bureau organised the NCORD meeting to strengthen coordination against drug trafficking and abuse.

The Narcotics Control Vision Document 2026-2029 outlines a roadmap focused on demand reduction, supply control, rehabilitation, and tackling synthetic drugs and darknet trafficking.

The government said the strategy reinforces its zero-tolerance policy to build a drug-free India.
