Authorities have banned drone operations in and around important locations in Tiruvannamalai for two days as part of extensive security arrangements for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit on Saturday.
Shah will begin a two-day tour of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry after completing his engagements in Maharashtra. He will fly to Chennai and then take a helicopter to Tiruvannamalai, arriving at around 04:20 PM.
From the helipad, the Minister will travel by road to Sri Ramanasramam, spend nearly an hour there, attend special prayers and visit the Arunachaleswarar Temple for darshan.
Shah will leave Tiruvannamalai at around 06:00 PM and proceed by road to Puducherry for the next stage of his tour.
The district administration and police have strengthened security throughout the temple town.
Officials have prepared helipads at the Government Arts College grounds and near Unnamalai Amman Nagar along the Girivalam route.
Central Reserve Police Force personnel and advance security officials conducted helicopter landing rehearsals at the helipads on Friday.
Union Home Ministry security officials also reviewed the preparations with District Collector Vandana Garg and Superintendent of Police Udayakumar.
Security teams inspected the routes connecting the helipads, Sri Ramanasramam and Arunachaleswarar Temple. They also examined Shah’s expected road route from Tiruvannamalai to Puducherry and separately assessed arrangements at the ashram and temple.
The administration has prohibited drones, remotely controlled aircraft and other unmanned aerial vehicles around the helipads, venues and designated VIP routes on Saturday and Sunday.
Collector Vandana Garg said the restrictions would protect public safety, ensure comprehensive security for the Home Minister and prevent threats from unauthorised UAV operations.
More than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed across Tiruvannamalai under a three-tier security system for the high-profile visit.
