Amit Shah To Review Border Security With SPs From Border Districts

On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a conference of Superintendents of Police (SPs) from border districts in New Delhi to assess the security situation and discuss measures to strengthen border management.

The meeting will bring together police officers from border states and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal and the northeastern states. They will likely brief the Home Minister on local security conditions and emerging concerns in their respective districts.

Among the key issues on the agenda are infiltration, illegal immigration, demographic changes, border security, drone-related threats and narcotics trafficking.

The participants are also likely to review the progress of fencing along sensitive stretches of the India-Bangladesh border, particularly in West Bengal, and discuss the misuse of drones for smuggling arms and drugs across the Pakistan border.

The conference comes after the Centre set up a high-level committee to examine demographic changes across the country.

The panel has been tasked with studying illegal immigration, organised migration, unusual settlement patterns and structural population shifts.

Over the past few months, Shah has visited several border regions to review security arrangements with district magistrates and SPs. He has directed officials to closely monitor illegal immigration, assess its impact on border areas and take action against illegal structures allegedly used to shelter illegal immigrants or facilitate forged identity documents.

The meeting will likely focus on the welfare and development of people living in border districts, recognising their importance in strengthening security along India’s international borders.
