Amit Shah To Inaugurate New MLA Residential Complex In Gandhinagar On Bhaibij

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Thursday inaugurate a new 216-flat residential complex for Gujarat MLAs in Gandhinagar.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Thursday unveil a new residential complex comprising 216 modern flats for Gujarat MLAs in Gandhinagar.

The inauguration, taking place on Bhaibij (Bhai Dooj), coincides with the Gujarati New Year and marks the completion of a Rs 247-crore housing scheme designed on the lines of MPs’ residences in Delhi.

New quarters in Sector 21 replace the ageing MLA housing in Sector 17, demolished after decades of use since its construction in 1995.

Built over an area of 28,000 square metres, the project features 12 nine-storey towers equipped with modern facilities and infrastructure.

Shared spaces include landscaped gardens, an auditorium, and community and dining halls. The complex also features a fitness centre, play areas for children, and a park for senior citizens. It further offers an internet lounge, indoor recreation rooms, and dedicated spaces for yoga and aerobics.

The complex also has jogging and walking tracks and four dedicated entry and exit points.

Officials noted that the new accommodation fully meets present-day living standards expected for legislators.

Earlier on Wednesday, Shah marked his 61st birthday in Ahmedabad, which coincided with the Gujarati New Year.

The occasion saw an informal gathering of senior political figures, party workers, and well-wishers at his residence.

Those extending greetings included Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, BJP state president Jagdish Vishwakarma, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, and several ministers, MLAs, and councillors.

Shah also met visitors and exchanged festive wishes.

The Home Minister will on Thursday attend the inauguration ceremony in Gandhinagar. He is also scheduled to take part in other official engagements, including meetings with the recently reconstituted state cabinet.

The state government recently underwent a major cabinet reshuffle, inducting 19 new ministers while retaining six from the previous line-up.

Harsh Sanghvi became the Deputy Chief Minister, while Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, took oath as a minister.

With this expansion, the Gujarat council of ministers now comprises 26 members, including the Chief Minister, compared to 17 earlier.

Under constitutional provisions, the 182-member Assembly can have up to 27 ministers, representing 15 per cent of its total strength.
