Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the 3rd National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) heads from states and Union Territories in Delhi on Tuesday, with the two-day event focusing on strengthening the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse.
Shah will release television commercials highlighting the harmful effects of drugs and the need to prevent substance abuse.
He will also lay the foundation stones for new Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zone complexes in Lucknow and Dehradun.
The conference will also honour the best-performing ANTF among the states and Union Territories and launch the revamped NCB website.
Organised by the NCB, the conference will bring together ANTF heads from all 36 states and Union Territories, along with representatives from government departments, agencies and other stakeholders.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said the conference, themed ‘United Resolve, Shared Responsibility’, will review progress towards targets assigned to state and UT ANTFs under the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026-29).
Participants will discuss measures to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse and identify strategies to strengthen supply reduction, demand reduction and harm reduction efforts.
The technical discussions will focus on four strategic pillars outlined in the Vision Document: Enforcement, Intelligence and Operations; Precursors and Synthetic Drugs Control; Demand and Harm Reduction; and Capacity Building and Coordination. The conference will feature eight technical sessions.
The conference will promote a whole-of-government approach to strengthen action against drug trafficking over the next three years.
Officials said it will develop strategies to strengthen drug law enforcement and protect youth from substance abuse.
The meeting will also strengthen NCB cooperation with state and UT ANTFs to advance the goal of a Drug-Free India.
