Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a comprehensive security review on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi on Thursday. Top officials from the Union Territory administration, security forces and central intelligence agencies will attend the meeting.
The meeting will mark the first high-level security review on Jammu and Kashmir in 2026. It comes as counter-terror operations in the region intensify.
In recent weeks, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security forces, have stepped up action in mountainous and remote areas of the Jammu region. Their efforts aim to track down terrorists, including foreign operatives.
Officials said the discussions will centre on a coordinated strategy to neutralise militants hiding in difficult terrain. They will also focus on maintaining strict vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) to ensure zero infiltration.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will attend the meeting along with senior civil and police officials. The attendees include Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and intelligence chief Nitish Kumar.
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and the heads of all CAPFs and intelligence agencies are also expected to participate.
Senior officers will brief the Home Minister on the current security situation and outline measures taken during winter to prevent infiltration, a period challenging due to weather and terrain.
In recent months, security forces have engaged militants in Kishtwar, Doda, and Udhampur. They also foiled several infiltration attempts along the LoC and IB.
Intelligence reports show terrorist groups remain across the borders, waiting to infiltrate with alleged support from Pakistan’s military and ISI. Officials expect these inputs to guide the deliberations.
The review will assess the security grid, inter-agency coordination, and intelligence-sharing mechanisms.
The Home Minister will stress maintaining pressure on terror networks and focus on civilian safety and administrative preparedness across the Union Territory.
