Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress, alleging that its leaders are linked to multiple corruption cases across West Bengal.
Addressing a campaign rally in Bolpur, Birbhum district, Shah claimed that, from cash-for-query and job scams to cattle and coal smuggling, PDS irregularities, and illegal land dealings, the party’s involvement spans various sectors. He said public frustration with governance has led to a strong desire for political change through the Assembly elections.
Shah reiterated that if the Bharatiya Janata Party comes to power in the state, the Uniform Civil Code will implemented without exception. He said the move would end practices such as individuals maintaining multiple matrimonial relationships simultaneously.
Targeting the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Shah criticised her administration over women’s safety, and termed it shameful that despite a woman leading the state, safety concerns persist. He alleged that advisories discouraging women from venturing out at night reflect governance failure.
The Union Home Minister promised improved law and order under BJP rule, stating that incidents like those reported in RG Kar, Kasba Law College, and Durgapur Medical College would not occur. He asserted that women would be able to move freely, even late at night, under a new administration.
Shah also warned of strict action against anti-social elements allegedly linked to the ruling party if they attempt to disrupt polling on April 23 and April 29. He said such elements would face legal consequences after the elections.
Referring to the turnout and response at the Bolpur rally, Shah said it indicated that the Trinamool Congress is losing ground in the state.
