Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday alleged that Mamata Banerjee reacts negatively whenever he raises concerns about alleged poll-related violence involving Trinamool Congress supporters.
While addressing a public meeting in Jamalpur, Shah claimed that disturbances during elections have become a frequent occurrence. He added that he consistently warns those responsible of strict consequences if they attempt to interfere with voting.
During his speech, Shah stated, “In every election, the hooligans backed by Trinamool Congress disturb the polling process through acts of violence. So in every rally, I caution these hooligans about dire consequences if they try to disrupt the polling process. And whenever I issue such warnings, the Chief Minister gets angry with me.”
“But I want to say that now I am just issuing a note of caution. If the hooligans do not mend their ways, their place will be behind bars,” he added.
Amit Shah said these warnings aim to ensure peaceful elections and protect the democratic process.
The Union Home Minister also criticised the Chief Minister’s earlier remarks following an incident in Durgapur. He said she had advised women to limit their movement after evening hours.
“A total of 20 Indian states have Chief Ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Have you heard any one of them advising women not to step out after 7 PM? Mamata Banerjee should be ashamed that, as a woman Chief Minister, she was unable to ensure the safety of women in West Bengal. But if the BJP comes to power, anyone even looking at a woman with bad intentions will be immediately sent behind bars. Women will be able to step out and move freely after midnight,” Shah noted.
Amit Shah said strict action will target alleged corruption networks linked to Trinamool Congress leaders. He added that this would happen if there is a change in government. He indicated that such syndicates would face strong legal consequences.
Concluding his remarks, the Minister said, “Allow us to form the government this time. All these syndicates will drown in the Bay of Bengal.”
These statements come amid heightened political activity in West Bengal, with both the BJP and Trinamool Congress intensifying their campaigns ahead of the upcoming elections.
