On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah sharply criticised the RJD, saying its time in power was marked by ‘Jungle Raj’. He claimed the party’s tenure from 1990 to 2005 saw 34 gruesome killings take place.
Speaking at a virtual rally for NDA candidates in Gopalganj, Shah listed several such incidents, including those in Bara, Senari, Bathani Tola, Laxmanpur-Bathe, Shankar Bigha and Miapur.
“This is not an election to elect an MLA or minister, but an election to choose between good governance under Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar, or the Jungle Raj of the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan),” he stated.
According to Shah, the outcome of this election would determine who leads Bihar, those accused of years of lawlessness or the alliance that, he said, had steered the state towards growth and stability.
Unable to reach the rally venue due to poor weather, Shah addressed supporters virtually from Patna.
“I apologise to the people of Gopalganj who turned out in large numbers. We did not get permission to take off due to weather conditions,” he asserted, explaining that flight clearance was denied because of the weather.
The Minister noted that Gopalganj had not elected an RJD representative since 2002 and expressed confidence that the record would continue.
Turning to the NDA manifesto, Shah outlined two major commitments focused on women and farmers.
He said the government had already deposited Rs 10,000 into the accounts of 1.41 crore Jeevika Didis and pledged that, once re-elected, each would receive an additional Rs 2 lakh.
For farmers, he announced that annual support under the PM-Kisan scheme would rise from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000.
“Rs 9,000 a year to 87 lakh farmers and Rs 2.10 lakh each to 1.41 crore Jeevika Didis – this is not a small thing,” Shah remarked.
Shah further said the Modi government had initiated the reopening of all sugar mills in Bihar, with several already operational, including three in Gopalganj and one rice mill, and the Riga Sugar Mill in Sitamarhi now functioning.
He also spoke of upcoming infrastructure projects, including an expressway from Dumariaghat (Gopalganj) to Patna and plans to redevelop Thave railway station.
