Amit Shah Sets Madhya Pradesh Target Of 50 Crore Litres Milk Production In Three Years

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set Madhya Pradesh a target of increasing milk production to 50 crore litres over the next three years, while stressing the need for scientific breed improvement and stronger dairy infrastructure.

Addressing a Gopalak Sammelan at BHEL Dussehra Ground, Shah said expanding dairy farming could boost rural incomes and contribute to efforts to tackle malnutrition. He described the gathering of around 35,000 cattle rearers and dairy cooperative members as an encouraging sign of a White Revolution in the state.

Shah called for greater investment to achieve the milk production target and proposed developing 50 acres of land for breed improvement and livestock facilities. He said dairy farming could provide families with an additional source of income and announced plans for a scheme that would allow farmers to earn from cow dung.

The Home Minister highlighted the role of dairy cooperatives in expanding organised milk production and increasing the economic participation of livestock rearers, particularly women. He said milk production would play an important role in addressing malnutrition.

Several dairy projects were launched during the programme.

Shah laid the foundation stone for a Rs 255-crore milk processing plant in Ujjain with a daily capacity of three lakh litres.

Bhopal received a Product Dairy Plant with a capacity of 40,000 litres per day at a cost of Rs 16.5 crore, along with a central dairy laboratory worth Rs 12.42 crore.

The Rs 6.5 crore work to strengthen a mini dairy plant in Shivpuri has begun.

Shah said the Centre’s White Revolution 2.0 initiative would use dairy cooperatives to increase milk procurement and strengthen rural livelihoods.

The programme further allocated Rs 101 crore to gaushalas and distributed Rs 15.10 crore in dividends among dairy cooperative members.
