Amit Shah Secures Consensus On Long-Pending Kishau Dam Project

In a significant development for the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River, a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday achieved consensus among six states on the implementation of the long-pending Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project, located on the border of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

According to an official statement, the meeting decided that 90 per cent of the cost of the project’s water component will be borne by the Central Government as Central Assistance, while the remaining 10 per cent will be shared among the six participating states.

The meeting also reached an agreement on the allocation of Himachal Pradesh’s share of water to Delhi and Rajasthan. In return, Delhi and Rajasthan will share the cost of Himachal Pradesh’s portion of the power component of the project.

The decision will likely contribute significantly to efforts aimed at restoring the Yamuna by ensuring a greater flow of clean water into the river system.

States Agree to Sign MoU

Following the initiative led by the Union Home Minister, the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the project.

The statement said that the Kishau Multipurpose Project will go before the Union Cabinet for approval after the signing of the MoU.

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ministry of Power, the Prime Minister’s Office and the concerned state governments attended the meeting.

The statement added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre has been advancing the principle of ‘Solutions Through Dialogue’ by building consensus on long-pending issues of national and public importance.
