On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Operation Sindoor as a defining military mission. He said the operation demonstrated the strength and precision of India’s armed forces against terrorism.
Marking one year since the cross-border operation, Shah said the mission would remain a lasting reminder to hostile forces. He said India possesses the capability to strike terror networks wherever they operate.
Taking to X, Shah posted, “#OperationSindoor stands as an epochal mission of India that will always remind our enemies of the infallible striking power of our armed forces.”
“History will remember it as the day of the precise striking power of our armed forces, meticulous intelligence of our agencies, and resolute political will rising together as one to destroy each and every address of terror across the border that dared to cast an evil shadow on our citizens at Pahalgam,” the post read.
The Home Minister further added, “This day will continue to bring the dreadful message to our enemies that no matter where they hide, they cannot escape. They are always within our sight and the fierce wrath of our firepower. On this day, I salute the unparalleled valour of our forces.”

As part of the anniversary observance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah changed their profile pictures on X to an image carrying the words ‘Operation Sindoor’ alongside the Indian national flag. Several other leaders also adopted similar tribute images.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 6 and 7 last year following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians in the attack.
The Resistance Front, considered an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, had claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to reports, the attackers allegedly identified victims based on religion and forced them to recite the Islamic ‘kalima’ before targeting non-Muslims. Those killed included 25 tourists and a local pony ride operator who reportedly tried to rescue them.
Several victims had recently married, while terrorists shot many people in front of their family members.
Indian armed forces later carried out strikes on terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The targets were described as high-value sites.
The government had characterised the operation as focused, restrained and non-escalatory.
Officials said the military action combined strategic, diplomatic and defence measures aimed at neutralising terror threats and preventing further attacks. They added that the operation maintained strategic restraint.
