Amit Shah Says BJP Will Eliminate Illegal Infiltration If It Wins Bengal In 2026

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government in West Bengal following next year’s Assembly elections, its priority will be to eliminate illegal infiltration in the state.

He made the statement on Tuesday during a press conference in Kolkata, marking the start of a three-day visit.

“If we come to power in West Bengal in 2026, our first task will not only be to prevent illegal infiltration but also to drive away the infiltrators currently residing in the state,” Shah said.

Shah accused the West Bengal government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to act against infiltration and of allegedly nurturing illegal settlers.

He questioned why the state had resisted installing barbed fencing along the international border with Bangladesh, describing the issue as a national concern rather than just a state problem.

The Union Home Minister also criticised the state administration for widespread corruption.

He cited scams ranging from chit funds and school-job scandals to coal and cattle smuggling, claiming that multiple Trinamool Congress (TMC) ministers had been jailed for their involvement.

Shah further raised concerns about women’s safety under the current state regime.

He referenced incidents at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, South Kolkata Law College, and Sandeshkhali, asserting that women in West Bengal remain unsafe and that the Chief Minister owes the public an explanation.

BJP’s Roots and 2026 Poll Outlook

Highlighting the historical significance of the state to the party, Shah noted that BJP founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee hailed from West Bengal.

He expressed confidence in the party’s growing popularity, suggesting that trends since 2016 indicate a BJP victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Shah’s statements underscore the BJP’s strategy to make law and order, border security, and corruption central issues in its campaign, framing the 2026 polls as a contest over governance and public safety.
