The Union Home Minister on Wednesday reviewed the flood and rain situation in Gujarat with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, assuring full support from the Central Government for relief and rescue operations amid widespread rainfall and waterlogging across the state.
According to officials, Amit Shah spoke to the Chief Minister over the phone to assess the impact of heavy rainfall in several districts.
The two leaders reviewed ongoing relief and rescue measures and discussed steps to ensure the safety of people in the affected areas.
During the conversation, the Union Home Minister said the Central Government was closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and remained in constant touch with the Gujarat Government. He noted that all concerned agencies were working in coordination to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the heavy rains.
Shah also reiterated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre would continue to support Gujarat during natural disasters by providing all necessary resources, technical assistance and any additional help required for effective relief operations.
The review comes as Gujarat continues to witness an active monsoon spell.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state and issued alerts for several districts, warning of the possibility of localised flash floods in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have advised residents, particularly those in low-lying regions, to remain alert and follow official advisories.
Over the past 24 hours, widespread rainfall has caused waterlogging and disrupted normal life in several districts.
The southwest monsoon has now covered the entire state, including Ahmedabad, while red alerts had earlier been issued for parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra as emergency agencies remain on standby.
