Union Home Minister Amit Shah has once again reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) across India by March 31, 2026. This declaration comes amidst significant successes in the ongoing battle against Maoist insurgents, including the recent neutralization of 31 Maoists in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh.
In a message honoring the security forces’ efforts, Shah lauded their accomplishment in eliminating the extremists and recovering a substantial cache of weapons and explosives.
However, he also paid tribute to the two brave soldiers who lost their lives during the operation. “While eliminating anti-human Naxalism, we have lost two brave soldiers. The nation will always be indebted to these heroes,” Shah wrote on social media platform X, expressing condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.
Reflecting on the progress made in Chhattisgarh over the past year, Shah emphasized a notable decline in Maoist activity, including the neutralization of several high-ranking cadres.
“Commendable action has been taken under the leadership of the Chhattisgarh government, utilizing a well-devised strategy,” he remarked, adding his confidence in achieving the goal of an LWE-free India within the set deadline of March 31, 2026.

Shah also praised the leadership of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, along with the relentless efforts of the state police and security forces. “The combined efforts of the Chhattisgarh government, police, and security agencies have laid a strong foundation for this campaign,” he said, reiterating that an LWE-free state is within reach.
The Home Minister also highlighted the government’s broader approach to tackling insurgency, particularly in the Northeast. Reflecting on the successes since 2019, Shah noted that 20 peace accords had been signed and 9,000 militants had surrendered, thanks to government initiatives.
Further supporting former insurgents, Shah revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the construction of 15,000 homes for surrendered Maoists under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Additionally, he shared that the National Dairy Development Board would provide cows or buffaloes to these families, enabling them to earn between Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per month.
The government’s strategic push to combat LWE reflects both a hardline approach against extremism and a compassionate initiative for those seeking to leave the insurgent movement and reintegrate into society.
