Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday stated that Madhya Pradesh is steadily moving towards becoming a leading centre for micro, small, and medium enterprises, supported by affordable operating costs and industry-friendly governance.
He made these remarks while addressing business leaders at the Abhyudaya Madhya Pradesh Growth Summit in Gwalior.
According to HM Shah, the state registered more than 4.57 lakh MSME units in a single year, placing Madhya Pradesh among India’s top performers in the sector. He added that MSMEs would continue to be central to job creation and regional economic development.
At the summit, foundation stones were laid for 1,655 industrial projects with investments exceeding ₹2 lakh crore. These ventures are expected to generate close to 1.93 lakh jobs across various districts.
HM Shah credited the progress to coordinated governance at the Centre and the state, stating that Madhya Pradesh has witnessed a significant policy-driven transformation.
Praising Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, HM Shah highlighted the state’s regional industrial conclaves, describing them as a practical model for balanced development. He said the approach ensures growth reaches all divisions and directly benefits local populations.
Recalling the past, he said Madhya Pradesh was once categorised as a ‘Bimaru’ state but shed that image during the tenure of Shivraj Singh Chouhan and is now advancing rapidly towards a developed-state status.
Infrastructure and Traditional Industries
HM Shah pointed out that Madhya Pradesh now enjoys a power surplus status and offers some of the lowest operational costs for metro services. He emphasised planned industrial expansion to take advantage of the state’s central location.
He also underlined efforts to revive traditional industries such as cotton by promoting local processing units in regions like Malwa and Gwalior-Chambal.
Turning to national achievements, HM Shah said India’s foreign exchange reserves have crossed $700 billion, signalling economic stability. He noted India’s growing role in semiconductor manufacturing, vaccine production and mobile phone exports.
Highlighting digital progress, he said India has nearly 99 crore broadband users and now handles close to half of global digital transactions. He also cited rapid expansion in highways, airports, rail electrification, metro networks and optical fibre connectivity.
HM Shah praised Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural success, including multiple Krishi Karman Awards, and spoke about the upcoming multi-modal logistics park.
The summit theme honoured former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, reaffirming commitments to self-reliance, employment and inclusive growth.
