Union Home Minister Amit Shah lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that the PM not only honored ‘Jannayak’ Karpoori Thakur but also recognized the 70 crore poor in the country. The announcement from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday revealed that the President is pleased to posthumously award Bharat Ratna to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.

Speaking at the 100th birth anniversary program of Karpoori Thakur in the national capital, Shah highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s actions, stating, “On the 22nd, Prime Minister Modi undertook ‘Ram Kaaj,’ and on the 23rd, he connected Lord Ram and the poor by performing ‘Gareeb Kaaj.’ The fulfillment of the devotees’ dream on the 22nd and the realization of the wishes of millions of poor, deprived, backward, Dalits, and tribals with the conferment of ‘Bharat Ratna’ on the 23rd.”

Shah praised PM Modi for upholding the values of the Constitution by awarding the country’s highest civilian honor to Karpoori Thakur, highlighting Thakur’s strong and principled personality despite being born into poverty.

Born in 1924 in the Nai Samaj, one of the most backward sections of society, Karpoori Thakur’s political journey was marked by an unwavering commitment to marginalized sections. As the Chief Minister of Bihar, he played a crucial role in the fight against social discrimination and inequality, providing representation and opportunities for the poor and oppressed.

Prime Minister Modi expressed delight over the decision to confer ‘Bharat Ratna’ on the former Bihar CM, acknowledging Thakur’s role as a beacon of social justice and a champion for the marginalized. The PM highlighted Thakur’s enduring efforts, visionary leadership, and commitment to uplifting the downtrodden, leaving an indelible mark on India’s socio-political fabric.
