Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday paid tribute to Rashtrakavi Ramdhari Singh Dinkar on his birth anniversary, remembering the celebrated poet’s contribution to Hindi literature and national consciousness.
In a post on X, Shah said Dinkar’s immortal works gave a new direction to the nation’s consciousness. He highlighted the poet’s ability to combine a call for freedom with deep human compassion in his writings.
“On the birth anniversary of Rashtrakavi Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’ ji, who gave a new direction to the nation’s consciousness through his immortal works, I pay my homage to him,” the Minister posted.
Shah particularly referred to Dinkar’s celebrated works Rashmirathi and Kurukshetra, saying the poet connected mythological episodes with modern questions and offered successive generations fresh perspectives for reflection. He further added that Dinkar’s writings would continue to inspire pride, courage and patriotism.

Born on September 23, 1908, in Simaria, Bihar, Dinkar emerged as one of the prominent voices of modern Hindi poetry. His works explored nationalism, social concerns, patriotism, morality and human values.
Rashmirathi tells the story of Karna, while Kurukshetra examines war and its moral and human dimensions.
Dinkar was honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Award and Padma Bhushan. He received the Jnanpith Award in 1972 for Urvashi.
Dinkar’s writings continue to hold a significant place in Hindi literature and remain associated with themes of courage, nationalism and human compassion.
