In a post, Shah described Maharani Durgavati as a symbol of feminine power and self-respect and offered his tributes to the former Gondwana ruler.

Shah recalled Durgavati’s focus on the welfare of her people during her reign. He said she built temples, rest houses and ponds and established an example of justice and public service.

Her legacy continues to receive recognition for her administrative leadership, public works and role in the history of central India.

Shah also highlighted Maharani Durgavati’s resistance against Mughal forces. He said young people should study her life and draw inspiration from her sacrifice in defence of the motherland.

The Home Minister urged the youth to place the nation’s interests above personal considerations and carry forward the values reflected in her life.

Maharani Durgavati was born on October 5, 1524, and became a prominent ruler of Gondwana in the 16th century. Historical accounts remember her for her administrative abilities, military leadership and resistance to Mughal expansion.

She died on June 24, 1564, during the Battle of Narrai while resisting the Mughal forces led by Asaf Khan. Her martyrdom remains an important part of the historical memory associated with Gondwana.

Shah’s tribute on her birth anniversary highlighted her enduring association with courage, public service and resistance.
