Amit Shah Launches ₹805-Crore Six-Lane Highway Project In Gujarat To Boost Industrial Growth

Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for the ₹805-crore six-lane Shantipura–Khodiyar GIDC highway project in Sanand, Gujarat.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Thursday performed the foundation stone ceremony for the ₹805-crore Shantipura–Khodiyar GIDC six-lane highway project in Sanand, Gujarat.

The event marked a major milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance connectivity and support industrial expansion in one of its fastest-growing economic hubs.

The ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with senior government officials, local representatives, and dignitaries.

The project underscores the state government’s commitment to building robust transport infrastructure to support Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem.

A Major Infrastructure Upgrade

The Gujarat State Road Development Corporation (GSRDC) is developing the 28.8-km-long highway to ease the growing traffic burden in Sanand and nearby areas — a region that has experienced rapid industrialisation in recent years.

The road currently accommodates an average of 43,000 vehicles daily, leading to frequent congestion on the existing four-lane stretch.

The project includes the six-laning of the full stretch, service roads on both sides covering 22.73 km, widening of 13 small bridges, and the construction of a six-lane elevated flyover, along with a three-lane right-turn flyover.

Additionally, five underpasses will be developed at Ularia, Telav (two locations), Sanand GIDC Gate, and Khodiyar GIDC.

The plan also features the construction or renovation of 172 culverts, ensuring seamless connectivity across link roads.

Upon completion, the upgraded highway will significantly reduce travel time, enhance safety, and improve fuel efficiency for daily commuters and freight carriers alike. It will also facilitate smoother access to major industrial and logistics hubs such as Viramgam, Surendranagar, Shankheshwar, Radhanpur, and Patan.

Promoting Connectivity and Economic Growth

Speaking at the event, Amit Shah highlighted that the project reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for modern and efficient infrastructure in Gujarat. He noted that the improved highway network would not only ease traffic flow but also boost economic activity by improving access to key manufacturing and industrial centres.

Officials from GSRDC stated that the project will contribute to road safety, fuel conservation, and employment generation, further supporting Gujarat’s reputation as an investment-friendly state.

Following the ceremony, Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel interacted with local residents, exchanging New Year greetings and receiving floral tributes from citizens.

MLA Kanu Patel, District Collector Sujit Kumar, District Development Officer Videh Khare, and several senior bureaucrats also attended the event.

Later in the day, Amit Shah will inaugurate a new residential complex for Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Gandhinagar.

Constructed at a cost of ₹220–247 crore, the complex replaces the old Sector 17 quarters and includes 216 modern 4BHK flats across 12 nine-storey towers.

The facility features modern amenities such as a health club, community hall, landscaped gardens, and a children’s play area, showcasing the state’s commitment to providing world-class infrastructure for its public representatives.
