Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 815 crore in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar and Sabarkantha districts, with investments spanning healthcare, transport infrastructure, water conservation and public amenities.
The programme included the inauguration of the Rs 89 crore Aluva-Sadra bridge over the Sabarmati River and a new Community Health Centre at Charada.
The ceremony also included the foundation stone laying for the Hirak and Rakhiyal barrages on the Sabarmati River, together valued at Rs 716.14 crore.
Addressing the gathering virtually, Shah said the pace of development initiated in Gujarat under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had continued under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. He said the Aluva-Sadra bridge would improve connectivity, tourism and access to the Jakshini Mata Temple.
At the same time, the Charada Community Health Centre would provide dialysis services, an operation theatre, a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and other advanced facilities to more than one lakh people.
Shah also inaugurated a community hall at Raniyapur, an elevated service reservoir at Alkapuri and the Sanskar Bhavan Trust building at Bapupura village. He said the two new barrages would strengthen irrigation and drinking water supply, improve groundwater levels and benefit farmers, livestock rearers, tourism and wildlife conservation.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said Gujarat had made significant progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education and rural development, with projects reaching remote communities. He also highlighted a tree plantation campaign in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, under which around 1.25 crore trees had recently been planted.
Health Minister of State Praful Pansheriya and Water Resources Minister Ishwarsinh Patel highlighted initiatives in healthcare, irrigation and water supply, saying the new barrage projects would enhance water storage and improve irrigation and drinking water availability across North Gujarat.
