Amit Shah Highlights PM Modi’s Push To Clean The Yamuna; Launches Rs 1,816 Crore Sewage Projects

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made cleaning the Yamuna a top priority, criticising the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to tackle river pollution effectively.

Speaking at the launch of 18 projects worth Rs 1,816 crore, HM Shah noted that the initiatives focus on sewage treatment and other measures to prevent Yamuna pollution.

“Within seven months, PM Modi has already planned to clean the Yamuna from Yamunotri to Prayagraj,” he said.

HM Shah aimed at former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, mocking his unfulfilled promise to take a dip in a clean Yamuna.

He remarked that when they made his cut-out to take a dip in the Yamuna, it landed in Safdarjung Hospital with sickness.

He added that the AAP government in Delhi did nothing to utilise the funds provided for river cleaning.

“Their CM announced that he would clean the river and take a dip in it. He did not keep his promise,” Shah said.

Delhi Government Supports River Cleaning

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also criticised the previous administration for failing to utilise funds offered by the Centre for Yamuna cleaning. The amount provided for this purpose was Rs 2,000 crore.

She outlined the current government’s efforts, including drone and physical surveys of 22 large and 200 small drains discharging into the river.

“I wish to thank the Central government and HM Amit Shah for supporting our efforts,” CM Gupta said. “This is just the beginning of our commitment to serve the people, and many more initiatives are in store.”

The 18 projects launched include the expansion and establishment of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) at Kondli, Kehopur, Rohini, Coronation Pillar, Narela, Yamuna Vihar, and Najafgarh. Additional initiatives cover the Siraspur water reservoir and other pumping stations.

HM Shah also paid tribute to the contributions of the late BJP MP and former Delhi BJP chief Vijay Kumar Malhotra in improving the city and said, “PM Modi is a towering personality who has pioneered several steps to realise the dream of freedom fighters and deliver good governance.”
