The bonus acknowledges the contribution of railway employees to the functioning of Indian Railways, which plays a crucial role in passenger and freight transportation across the country.
Employees across operational, technical and administrative roles help maintain train services, manage infrastructure, assist passengers and ensure the smooth movement of goods. Their work supports the functioning of the extensive railway network and the country’s transportation infrastructure.
The productivity-linked bonus will provide additional financial support to eligible employees and their families during the festive season, when households typically face higher expenses related to celebrations, travel and other needs.
The Cabinet-approved allocation of ₹2,009 crore will fund payments calculated at the equivalent of 78 days’ salary, subject to applicable eligibility and calculation rules.
The decision recognises the workforce’s contribution to railway operations and the movement of passengers and goods, while extending financial support to eligible railway households ahead of Diwali.
