Union Home Minister Amit Shah applauded the Border Security Force (BSF) for its unwavering role in defending India’s borders while interacting with jawans at Border Outpost G-7 in Bhuj, Gujarat. He stated that the force has been securing the country’s sensitive frontiers since 1965-66 with remarkable commitment.
Shah noted that the BSF has effectively monitored both the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders for nearly 60 years despite facing highly demanding operational conditions.
The Home Minister honoured the memory of more than 2,000 BSF personnel who laid down their lives while performing their duties in different parts of the country. He remarked that BSF soldiers continue to serve in severe climates, from freezing temperatures of minus 45 degrees to scorching heat exceeding 50 degrees in remote border regions.
Shah mentioned that jawans remain deployed in difficult terrains such as the marshy stretches of Sir Creek and Harami Nala in Gujarat, the deserts of Rajasthan, the snowy Himalayan belt and the forest regions of the Northeast and Sundarbans.
Recalling his recent border tour in Rajasthan, Shah said the temperature at the Sanchu border post had reached 46 degrees during his visit, while desert temperatures frequently crossed the 50-degree mark.
The Minister appreciated the determination shown by BSF personnel and said citizens across the country feel secure because of the force’s relentless service and sacrifice.
Public Outreach and Awareness Initiatives
Shah highlighted a public awareness centre set up in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district to educate people about the BSF’s responsibilities and contributions. He informed that the facility, developed at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore, attracts over 2.5 lakh visitors every month.
According to Shah, several visitors have shared feedback expressing admiration for the force and interest in seeing their children join the BSF in the future.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, IB Director Tapan Kumar Deka and BSF Director General Praveen Kumar accompanied Shah during the programme.
