Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Thiruvananthapuram later this month, marking the formal launch of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for the Kerala Assembly elections.
The visit follows the political groundwork laid by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to the state capital.
Party sources said PM Modi’s presence will signal a shift from internal consolidation to mass mobilisation, with a focused campaign narrative already in preparation.
State leadership and local representatives met with Shah, who used the meetings as a strategic prelude to the Prime Minister’s visit.
During the ‘Mission 2026’ campaign launch, Shah flagged the alleged Sabarimala gold heist as a central political issue.
He demanded an investigation by an independent agency, alleging that the FIR protected the accused and questioned the credibility of the current probe under the Left Democratic Front-led government.
He also pointed to the potential involvement of Congress leaders, arguing that the case had national significance and affected millions of devotees.
Shah announced statewide protests and door-to-door campaigns, signalling that the Sabarimala issue would remain a recurring theme in BJP messaging.
Beyond the immediate controversy, Shah criticised communism’s relevance and highlighted Congress’s weakening position nationally. He asserted that Kerala’s development was possible only under a BJP government, reiterating the party’s aim to install a Chief Minister under the lotus symbol.
With Shah setting the ideological agenda, PM Modi will likely energise party cadres, consolidate the Sabarimala narrative, and place the BJP’s Kerala Assembly campaign firmly on a national political footing during his upcoming visit.
Currently, the party holds no seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly, though it made notable gains in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, including Suresh Gopi’s victory from Thrissur.
