Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the Congress party following the Supreme Court’s validation of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. During his address to the Rajya Sabha, Shah expressed frustration with the Congress’s refusal to accept the decision, emphasizing the boost in separatism and rise in terrorism linked to Article 370. Shah urged the Congress to reconsider for the nation’s interest, predicting a potential face-off in the 2024 elections.
Shah also invoked India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, blaming him for the incomplete accession of Jammu and Kashmir after Independence. He highlighted Nehru’s role in the Kashmir issue, suggesting that the untimely ceasefire during Nehru’s tenure contributed to the existence of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
During his speech, Shah underscored the government’s initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir post the Article 370 abrogation. He claimed the successful dismantling of the ecosystem of terror funding in the region, citing the registration of numerous terrorism finance cases, arrests, and significant seizures.

The Rajya Sabha unanimously passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, amending key laws in the Union Territory through a voice vote. Shah’s address came ahead of this legislative development, as he urged the Congress to reconsider its stance on Article 370 in light of the Supreme Court’s validation.
