Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated golfer Pranavi Sharath Urs on winning gold in the women’s individual stroke play at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Shah praised Urs for creating history with her landmark victory. She became the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games.
Urs finished the competition at 15-under 265. She overcame a final-round triple bogey and held off her challengers by one stroke to secure the title. Her victory ended India’s 24-year wait for an Asian Games golf gold medal. Shiv Kapur last won the men’s individual title for India at the 2002 Games.
The Indian women’s golf team strengthened the country’s medal tally by securing silver in the team event. Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar joined Urs in the Indian contingent.
Shah hailed Urs’ achievement and congratulated her for delivering a memorable performance on the Asian Games stage.
Urs’ gold marked a significant moment for Indian golf. Her victory established a new milestone for Indian women in the sport at the continental multi-sport event.
The 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya have provided Indian athletes with another major platform to compete for honours across disciplines.
