Union Home Minister Amit Shah marked the Gujarati New Year and his 61st birthday in his hometown of Ahmedabad, where a warm and vibrant celebration took place at his residence.
The gathering drew senior political figures, party colleagues, and well-wishers who joined in extending greetings.
Among those who personally conveyed their wishes were Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, BJP state president Jagdish Vishwakarma, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, along with several ministers, MLAs, and councillors.
Throughout the morning, Shah greeted visitors and exchanged New Year wishes with supporters who had assembled outside his home in large numbers.
The Home Minister is set to participate in a series of public engagements across the city on Wednesday and is expected to hold discussions with the newly inducted members of the Gujarat cabinet.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel called on ministers and staff at the Cabinet residence complex in Gandhinagar to extend New Year greetings, while celebrations continued throughout the state.
Early Life and Political Rise
Born in 1964 in Mumbai and raised in Ahmedabad, Amit Anilchandra Shah entered public life early through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
After earning a degree in biochemistry, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 1980s, around the same period when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was emerging as a key figure in Gujarat politics.
The duo would go on to forge a partnership that shaped both Gujarat’s governance and India’s political direction.
Shah’s organisational acumen came to the fore during the 1990s and early 2000s, as he worked to fortify the BJP’s base across Gujarat.
Serving as Home Minister and later as Minister for Law and Urban Development in the state government, he became known for his data-oriented approach, administrative precision, and strong rapport with the party cadre.
His strategic vision was pivotal in shaping what became known as the ‘Gujarat model’, a framework combining administrative efficiency, focus on law and order, and meticulous booth-level management that kept the BJP firmly ahead in state politics.
By the mid-2000s, Shah had become Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s most trusted political strategist. His mastery of voter segmentation and campaign management delivered repeated electoral successes for the BJP.
Even critics acknowledged his tactical discipline and sharp organisational skills.
Following the 2014 general election, Shah transitioned to the national stage, first as BJP President and later as India’s Home Minister. Yet, as many in Gujarat often remark, his political heart continues to beat strongest in Ahmedabad.
