Union Home Minister Amit Shah has commenced a three-day visit to Bihar, concentrating on border security, administrative preparedness and development initiatives in the Seemanchal region.
The area shares proximity with Nepal and Bangladesh and remains strategically sensitive.
During the visit, Shah will review security arrangements in border districts and hold high-level meetings with officials regarding concerns along the India–Nepal border.
Officials will prominently discuss reports of increased cross-border activities, including alleged drug trafficking.
Amit Shah will reach Purnia at around 4:00 PM and then proceed to Kishanganj, where he will chair a review meeting at the Collectorate.
On 26 February, Amit Shah will visit Araria, attend a programme at the Letti border outpost and review security infrastructure, along with development work under the Vibrant Villages Programme.
Bihar Minister Ashok Chaudhary said the visit aims to assess border areas near Nepal and Bangladesh amid rising concerns.
JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar highlighted development projects such as the APJ Abdul Kalam Agriculture College, Purnia Airport and Waqf-related initiatives.
LJP MLA Raju Tiwari welcomed the tour as a sign of the government’s commitment to Seemanchal.
RLM MLA Madhav Anand said Amit Shah regularly reviews central schemes in Bihar and described the visit as a continued engagement with the state.
Authorities have tightened security ahead of his arrival. Officials will brief him on law and order, border management and coordination between state and central agencies.
Shah will conclude the tour on 27 February after meetings in Purnia and return to New Delhi, reaffirming the Centre’s focus on national security and balanced regional development in Bihar’s border districts.
