Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured a delegation of eight religious seers that action against the alleged conspirators in the Dharmasthala murder cases will follow a high-level meeting scheduled for September 8, according to Jain monk Gunadhar Nandi Maharaj.
Speaking to reporters, Gunadhar Nandi Maharaj said the Home Minister had informed the delegation, comprising seven sadhus and a mathadheesh, that he was closely monitoring developments related to the case in Karnataka’s Mangaluru region.
“Amit Shah assured us that directions would be issued to initiate action against the conspirators afterwards,” he noted.
The delegation met the Union Minister at his residence in Delhi for 45 minutes, raising concerns over alleged propaganda and high-handedness directed at Hindu and Jain communities.
They also requested a new law to prevent conspiracies and attacks on religious institutions. Nandi Maharaj said Amit Shah firmly assured that he would introduce legislation aimed at protecting Indian, Jain and Hindu cultures.
Concerns Over Social Media & Murders of Sages
The monk added that the Union Minister had also spoken about regulating falsehoods on social media, promising measures for swift removal of objectionable content within 24 hours.
Shah also discussed murders of sages and other conspiracies across the country, terming the Dharmasthala case ‘a major controversy’.
Under the banner of ‘Sanatana Sant Niyog’, the seers demanded that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) take over the case.
They submitted a memorandum and asserted that certain groups were targeting Dharmasthala like Sabarimala and Tirupati. While they voiced no objection to the current Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry, they stressed the need for a national-level probe to ‘expose the conspiracy’.
Vachanananda Swamiji, who led the delegation, said Amit Shah had already collected details of the case and promised to review the SIT’s progress.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that the Centre would need to examine allegations of foreign funding linked to the case.
The Enforcement Directorate is also gathering information on alleged foreign funding and tracking bank accounts of activists involved in campaigns against temple authorities, according to sources.
