Union Home Minister Amit Shah, currently on a visit to West Bengal, has instructed state leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to maintain a positive tone during mass outreach programmes ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Upon his arrival in Kolkata on Monday night, Shah attended a meeting with the party’s state core leadership.
A senior state party leader, who requested anonymity, confirmed Shah’s instructions to the outreach programmes. He said the programmes should show that the BJP is ready to fulfil public aspirations by ending the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule.
Shah also shared his confidence in a potential regime change in the state through a social media message.
“West Bengal is fully prepared for change. I have arrived in Kolkata for a three-day visit to West Bengal. The affection shown by party workers at the airport has deeply moved me,” he wrote.

The Union Home Minister announced that on Tuesday, he would hold detailed discussions on the Assembly elections. These discussions will be with the state core groups.
On Tuesday, Shah will address the media and provide updates from Monday night’s meetings with the core leadership.
Later, on Wednesday, he plans to meet the party’s elected MPs and MLAs in the state. He will also interact with workers in the Kolkata metropolitan area.
The sessions on Monday included two sets of discussions lasting almost until midnight: the first with 26 top state leaders and the second with a smaller team of 10 central and state leaders managing organisational affairs in West Bengal.
Considering the ongoing festive mood ahead of the New Year celebrations, Shah will not hold public meetings, rallies, or participate in roadshows during his three-day visit.
Shah will return to New Delhi on December 31.
