HC angry over delay in compensation to sexual victims in Uttar Pradesh

PRAYAGRAJ: Allahabad High Court has expressed displeasure over the delay in giving compensation to the victims of sexual harassment in Uttar Pradesh. Expressing grave displeasure, the High Court directed the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) across the State to make all efforts to dispose of such pending applications expeditiously.

The division bench of Justice Vivek Kumar Birla and Justice Syed Qamar Hasan Rizvi issued this direction because 1129 applications are pending before all the District Legal Services Authorities of the state and there is a delay in disposal of about 968 applications.

The court further held that this is not a good situation, as there is a delay in disposal of about 968 applications out of 1129 applications, which shows that the District Legal Services Authorities are not functioning properly.

Therefore, it is necessary to dispose of such applications expeditiously. The court also directed to sensitize the DLSA so that the applications can be disposed of expeditiously and without any delay. Can be distributed. The division bench  was hearing a writ petition Mamta vs. State of UP, in which a direction was sought to provide rehabilitation and compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victim in a case under the POCSO Act.

While hearing the case on March 28, the High Court had asked the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority to submit a report regarding the status of implementation of the Compensation Scheme for Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault/Other Crimes-2018.

Further, the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority has been  directed to submit a report after receiving a fresh report from all the District Legal Services Authorities by the next listed date, July 15.
