Congress Leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala And Kumari Selja Pay Tributes To Late Social Worker Rajesh Rai

Senior Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Kumari Selja have paid heartfelt tributes to the late Rajesh Rai, elder brother of Upendrra Rai, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network.

Rajesh Rai, known for his social work and community service, passed away recently after a period of illness.

Family members and well-wishers gathered in Ghazipur today to observe his terahvi (thirteenth-day prayer ceremony) and pay their respects.

Journalists, social workers, and public representatives from across the country have expressed their grief and paid tributes, making the loss deeply felt across the media fraternity, political circles, and social organisations.

Randeep Singh Surjewala’s Heartfelt Letter

On 4 November 2025, Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala wrote a condolence letter to Upendrra Rai, expressing profound grief at the untimely demise of his elder brother.

“I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your brother, Rajesh Rai. May the Almighty give you and your family strength to bear this irreparable loss. My prayers are with you. Om Shanti,” Surjewala wrote, offering solidarity with the bereaved family.

Kumari Selja Remembers Rajesh Rai’s Service

Similarly, Congress MP and former Union Minister Kumari Selja conveyed her sympathies through a personal note to Upendrra Rai.

“Dear Upendrra Rai ji, I was deeply pained to hear about the demise of your elder brother, Rajesh Rai. He was known for his dedication to social causes and his generosity towards others. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant you strength during this difficult time,” she wrote.

Her message reflected Rajesh Rai’s enduring legacy as a compassionate social worker who inspired those around him through his public service.

The atmosphere in Sherpur Kala, the ancestral village of the Rai family in Ghazipur district, remains sombre. Rajesh Rai, who had been unwell for some time, breathed his last on 25 October at Delhi’s Moolchand Hospital. His funeral took place on 27 October, attended by thousands who gathered to bid him farewell with tearful eyes.

Rajesh Rai’s passing has left a void not only in his family but also in the larger community he served selflessly, remembered for his humility, kindness and commitment to social good.
