Air India Mourns Cabin Crew Lost In Crash: ‘Flew With Compassion, You Will Be Remembered’

Air India, in a poignant tribute, honoured the memory of its ten cabin crew members who lost their lives in the tragic crash of flight AI-171 near Ahmedabad.

Sharing its message on social media platform X, the airline described the deceased as ‘the soul of every journey’, applauding their grace, warmth, and dedication to service.

Taking to X, Air India posted, “With hearts full of sorrow, we remember the cabin crew members we lost – beloved colleagues, cherished friends, and the soul of every journey they were a part of.”

“You flew with compassion. You will be remembered with love,” the post added.

The tribute named all ten crew members: Aparna Amol Mahadik, Shradha Mahadev Dhavan, Deepak Balasaheb Pathak, Irfan Samir Shaikh, Lamnunthem Singson, Maithili Patil, Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma, Saineeta Abin Chakravarti, Manisha Thapa, and Roshni Rajendra Songhare.

Farewell to Captain Sabharwal

Earlier, on 17 June, Air India solemnly bid farewell to Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, the pilot of the ill-fated aircraft, during his final rites.

In a statement, the airline remembered him as ‘an exceptional aviator, a dedicated professional, and a beloved member of the Air India family’, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire generations to come.

Remembering co-pilot Clive Kunder

On Thursday, tributes were also extended to co-pilot Clive Kunder during his funeral in Mumbai.

“With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to First Officer Clive Kunder – a young aviator full of promise, a valued colleague, and a deeply cherished member of the Air India family. Clive’s quiet dedication, grace, and passion for flying earned him the admiration of everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him,” Air India posted on X.

Senior leaders from both the Tata Group and Air India have remained closely involved with the grieving families, offering condolences, financial aid, and ongoing support.

The crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad en route to London, claimed 241 lives.

As of Thursday, Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel confirmed that forensic teams from the State FSL and the National Forensic Sciences University had successfully matched 210 DNA samples.

In response, Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran called the tragedy ‘one of the darkest days in the Tata Group’s history’.

The Group has announced an ex gratia payment of ₹1 crore to each bereaved family, along with ₹25 lakh in interim relief and full medical coverage for the injured.

Tata has also committed to rebuilding a hostel at BJ Medical College damaged in the crash.
