Air India CEO Campbell Wilson, in a recent internal email to the airline’s staff, revealed that the preliminary investigation into the AI171 crash in Ahmedabad found no mechanical or maintenance faults in the Boeing Dreamliner involved.
He emphasised that the airline had completed all mandatory maintenance tasks before the incident.
Moreover, Wilson clarified that engineers found no issues with the quality of fuel, and the aircraft experienced no irregularities during the take-off roll.
He added that the pilots had cleared their mandatory pre-flight breathalyser checks, and medical teams raised no concerns regarding their health.
As the investigation continues, Wilson urged both employees and the public to avoid jumping to conclusions.
He noted, “The preliminary report has not identified any cause or made specific recommendations, which highlights that this is just an early step in a much longer process. We must therefore refrain from making premature assumptions.”
Furthermore, he assured that Air India will continue providing full cooperation to investigators and will share all relevant data to support a thorough and independent enquiry.
In the same message, Wilson encouraged his team to stay aligned with the values that have guided the airline’s transformation: integrity, excellence, customer focus, innovation, and teamwork.
He stressed the importance of remaining focused, stating, “Speculation will continue until authorities release a final report or determine the cause. But we must stay committed to supporting those impacted, ensuring safety, and maintaining reliable service.”
Wilson also reaffirmed the airline’s top priorities. These include supporting the bereaved families and injured passengers, maintaining unity within the organisation, and upholding the highest standards of flight safety.
He described the release of the preliminary report as a crucial inflexion point in the investigation.
“It has provided more clarity about the incident, but at the same time, it has raised new questions that must be explored,” he remarked.
Additionally, Wilson addressed the intense media scrutiny following the crash. He acknowledged that the past 30 days have seen a constant cycle of theories, allegations, and sensational headlines. However, he pointed out that many of these early reports have now proven inaccurate.
He urged the team not to be distracted by speculation. “While media speculation is understandable in such high-profile events, much of it has not aligned with the emerging facts,” he said.
In conclusion, Wilson reiterated Air India’s commitment to transparency and accountability. He stressed that the airline will continue to collaborate closely with investigators and regulators to ensure a safe flying environment.
He ended the message by affirming the airline’s long-term focus: “We remain resolute in our mission — to ensure passenger confidence, uphold safety, and continue delivering world-class air travel.”
