Acharya Ramchandra Das Maharaj, successor to Jagadguru Rambhadracharya, met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata.
The meeting focused on proposed Ramanand Mission events, Bengal’s Sanatan culture and traditions, and several important issues concerning the state.
Recalling the meeting, Acharya Ramchandra Das Maharaj said he had heard about Adhikari’s personality and working style during his stay in Kolkata. Although they had spoken once or twice over the phone, this was their first personal meeting.
When Adhikari learnt about the Maharaj’s visit to Kolkata, he expressed his wish to meet him.
According to Acharya Ramchandra Das Maharaj, when he asked when he could visit the Chief Minister, Adhikari replied that he was a saint and that he would instead come to seek his blessings.
The Maharaj said Adhikari’s gesture touched him.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also spoke about the importance of saints’ blessings for the Hindu community in Bengal.
Acharya Ramchandra Das Maharaj said Bengal has historically produced personalities who guided the nation, including Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He said the state needs leadership that understands and protects its culture, traditions, identity and public sentiments.
Acharya Ramchandra Das Maharaj praised CM Adhikari’s determination and commitment to Bengal’s interests. He prayed for his long life, health and strength to preserve the state’s Sanatan heritage.
The meeting also covered proposed Ramanand Mission programmes and Bengal’s cultural concerns.
