Acharya Pramod Krishnam Criticises Rahul Gandhi For Calling Lord Ram A Mythological Character

Spiritual leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam has strongly criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for calling Lord Ram a ‘mythological character’ during a recent event at Brown University in the United States.

The comment has reignited debate over religious faith, political rhetoric, and the role of public figures in sensitive cultural discourse.

Only Those Who Have Faith Believe In Lord Ram: Acharya Pramod

Reacting sharply to Gandhi’s statement, Acharya Pramod Krishnam, Peethadheeshwar of Kalki Dham, said, “Only those who have faith in God believe in Lord Ram. A person who has no faith will naturally question Lord Ram and the Ram temple. This is nothing new.”

He accused the Congress leader of using controversial remarks to gain political traction. “Rahul Gandhi thinks that conducting a caste census will bring him to power. He thought asking for proof of surgical strikes would benefit him politically. But the people of India are very aware and will not be misled,” Krishnam added.

Context: Rahul Gandhi’s US Remarks

During a discussion at Brown University, Rahul Gandhi stated that figures like Lord Ram are mythological and said, ‘Lord Ram was also of the same type – forgiving and kind’.

The remark sparked swift political and religious backlash in India.

BJP And Others Join The Chorus Of Criticism

While Acharya Pramod’s rebuke has drawn significant attention, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also condemned Gandhi’s comments.

BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla said, “The country will never forgive Rahul Gandhi for doubting the existence of Lord Ram.”

BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan added context by sharing a clip of Gandhi’s statement and recalling the 2007 affidavit filed by the Congress-led UPA government.

The affidavit had stated there was no historical evidence of Lord Ram’s existence, a stance that had then also sparked controversy.

Faith, Politics, And Public Sentiment

Acharya Pramod Krishnam, known for voicing religious perspectives on political issues, has previously supported inclusive public discourse but draws the line at what he sees as disrespect for deeply held beliefs.

“You cannot seek votes by undermining faith,” he said, warning against the politicisation of religion in the run-up to elections.

As of now, the Congress party has not issued a formal statement clarifying or defending Rahul Gandhi’s remarks.

However, the incident has already triggered a wave of reactions that could influence public sentiment in the coming months.
