Acharya Pramod Krishnam, the Peethadheeshwar of Kalki Dham in Sambhal, has lauded Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, describing him as a “rashtra bhakt” (patriot), while taking a swipe at opposition leaders.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Acharya Pramod remarked, “Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is a ‘rashtra bhakt’ leader, and PM Narendra Modi knows how to respect patriots.”
The statement quickly sparked widespread discussion across social media, with many interpreting it as a subtle endorsement of the central government’s approach and a veiled criticism of the Congress party.
Acharya Pramod’s remarks followed Shashi Tharoor’s recent praise of the Modi government’s Pakistan policy.
In a recent interview, Tharoor commended the government’s handling of cross-border terrorism, calling India’s actions a “calibrated response.”

He noted that India had effectively targeted terrorist infrastructure while safeguarding civilian lives in Pakistan.
This balanced view, however, has not gone down well with his own party colleagues.
Once a Congress leader himself, Acharya Pramod has increasingly criticised the party on issues related to national security and interest.
His recent tweet is being seen by political observers as a continuation of his shift in allegiance.
While it has unsettled the opposition camp, public responses remain divided, with some applauding his nationalism and others questioning his motives.
In a related development, the central government has announced the formation of seven all-party delegations to present India’s position on Operation Sindoor and cross-border terrorism.
These delegations will visit key global capitals, particularly those of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) member states, to explain India’s stance.
Interestingly, Shashi Tharoor has been named the sole Congress MP in the delegation, a decision that has irked the Congress leadership.
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs released the names, which reportedly did not include any prior recommendation from the Congress party itself.
In a strongly worded statement, the party leadership stated, “We did not give Tharoor’s name to the central government. They took it on their own. Tharoor has crossed the Laxman Rekha.”
Several senior Congress figures expressed discontent over Tharoor’s public praise of the Modi government, particularly during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on 14 May.
Party insiders claim that his comments have led to internal discord, with many accusing him of undermining party unity.
Despite the controversy, Shashi Tharoor has stood by his statement and role in the delegation.
Expressing gratitude, he posted on X: “I feel honoured by the government’s invitation to lead an all-party delegation to the capitals of five major countries to present our country’s view on recent events. When it comes to national interest and my services are needed, I will not stay behind.”
The unfolding situation underscores the delicate balance between party loyalty and national interest.
As the debate continues, Shashi Tharoor’s inclusion in a government-led initiative and Acharya Pramod’s open support hint at shifting political dynamics, especially as India navigates sensitive diplomatic efforts on the global stage.
