Sanjay Singh Got Warning
A Delhi court issued a stern warning to Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh, cautioning him against using the courtroom as a platform for political speeches. This warning came during the proceedings of a money laundering case against the AAP Member of Parliament.
During the courtroom session, when Sanjay Singh mentioned the name of industrialist Gautam Adani, the special judge, MK Nagpal, responded strongly, saying, “If you want to give a speech about Adani and (PM Narendra) Modi, I will request your presence through video conferencing from now on.”
Mr. Singh passionately alleged that the investigative agencies failed to act on his complaint against Mr. Adani. However, the court directed him, who is an accused in a case related to the Delhi liquor policy, to refrain from discussing “unrelated matters” during the hearings.
The Rajya Sabha member also claimed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not ask him relevant questions during his custodial interrogation. He expressed his frustration, stating that the ED seemed more like an “entertainment department” and accused them of ignoring his complaint against Adani.
Following the hearing, the judge passed an order regarding the application filed by the ED, which sought Mr. Singh’s judicial custody for two weeks. As a result, Mr. Singh’s judicial custody was extended until October 27.
The case against Mr. Singh began with a raid and his subsequent custody after he was named by an accused, businessman Dinesh Arora, who later became an ‘approver’ and a source of information for the authorities.
The Enforcement Directorate, which has filed three chargesheets in the case, has never officially named Sanjay Singh as an accused nor summoned him to record a statement. However, the agency did make references to the AAP leader in its documents, which generated significant political controversy.
