In a significant move ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released its second list of nine candidates on Tuesday, finalizing their nominees for 29 of the 90 seats.
The party’s decision comes as the electoral race heats up for the 5 October polls.
The newly announced candidates are set to contest in Indri, Sadhaura, Thanesar, Ratia, Adampur, Barwala, Tigaon, Faridabad, and Bawal constituencies. The selected individuals are as follows:
- Hawa Singh – Indri,
- Pravesh Mehta – Faridabad,
- Rita Bamaniya – Sadhaura,
- Krishan Bajaj – Thanesar,
- Mukhtiyar Singh Bazigar – Ratia,
- Bhupendra Beniwal – Adampur,
- Chhatar Pal Singh – Barwala,
- Jawahar Lal – Bawal, and
- Abash Chandela – Tigaon
The announcement comes in the wake of a failed seat-sharing agreement with the Congress party, which had been a potential ally for AAP.
This rupture follows a previously successful Lok Sabha alliance in Haryana and a separate contest in Punjab.
AAP Vows Full Fight In Haryana; Targets BJP
AAP’s Haryana chief, Sushil Gupta, affirmed the party’s commitment to a full-scale battle in the state.
“We are determined to contest all 90 seats. Our sole objective is to challenge and replace the corrupt BJP government. The people of Haryana are ready for a change,” Gupta declared.
In an earlier declaration, AAP had revealed 20 candidates, including notable names such as Anurag Dhanda from Kalayat, Indu Sharma from Bhiwani, Vikas Nehra from Meham, and Bijender Hooda from Rohtak.
The fallout from the alliance discussions has sparked a reaction from Punjab Congress leader Raj Kumar Verka, who criticized AAP’s internal dynamics.
“It’s not the alliance that fell apart but rather the arrogance of AAP’s leadership. Their disjointed statements and lack of coordination have undermined their position. There’s no significant vote base for AAP in Haryana,” Verka, a former Amritsar West MLA, asserted.
With the deadline for nomination papers set for 12 September, the race is now fully underway. The Haryana Legislative Assembly elections are on 5 October, with results likely on 8 October.
