AAP Leader Sanjay Singh Questioned By ED In ₹2 Crore Money Trail Case
Sanjay Singh, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. A Delhi Court has granted the probe agency five days of custody for Mr. Singh, whom they allege to be a “key conspirator” in the case.
The ED has informed the court that a businessman had given ₹2 crore to Mr. Singh, and this money is part of the money trail related to the Delhi liquor policy case. The agency further claims that the AAP leader had close ties with several accused individuals, including businessman Dinesh Arora, who has recently turned approver in the case.
According to the ED’s application, they believe that Mr. Singh was involved in a criminal conspiracy to provide favors to private individuals through policy formulation.
The ED stated that they have seized digital evidence from Mr. Singh’s premises and plan to confront him with it. They assert that there is a direct link between the money received and the proceeds of the crime.
Special Judge MK Nagpal has remanded Mr. Singh in ED custody until October 10 to facilitate thorough interrogation by the federal probe agency. He will be presented before the court at the end of his custody period.
The judge noted that considering the allegations against the accused and the material presented regarding his involvement in the proceeds of the crime, sustained interrogation is necessary to trace the complete trail. Hence, the remand was deemed appropriate.
Sanjay Singh’s arrest follows day-long searches at his residence. He is the second senior AAP leader to be arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in the liquor policy case, with former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia being the first. Mr. Sisodia, arrested in February, is currently seeking bail in the Supreme Court.
The AAP has characterized Mr. Singh’s arrest as a manifestation of the BJP’s “frustration” with opposition parties uniting under the INDIA bloc ahead of the 2024 general election.
