A Son’s Plea, A Father’s Death: Traffic Challan Row Sparks Outrage In Tonk

A controversy has erupted in Rajasthan’s Tonk district after the son of a 50-year-old man alleged that a traffic policeman delayed their journey to the hospital during a medical emergency by issuing a challan.

The man later died while undergoing treatment at the district hospital, prompting questions over the handling of the incident.

According to Mahendra Yadav, a resident of Jawali village, his father, Shivji Lal Yadav, suddenly became unwell while they were returning from Peeplu on June 14.

Mahendra claimed that despite repeatedly informing the traffic constable about his father’s deteriorating condition and requesting permission to proceed to the hospital, the officer continued with the challan process.

Mahendra claimed that the traffic police detained the motorcycle while issuing the challan, causing a critical delay. He also alleged that his father had to lie under a neem tree outside the police lines as officials completed the formalities.

After paying a ₹100 fine, Mahendra rushed his father to the district hospital, where doctors admitted him to the ICU. Shivji Lal later died at around 2 PM.

Mahendra alleged that hospital staff told him the patient had arrived too late.

The incident occurred near Chhawani Tiraha, where police stopped the motorcycle for alleged traffic violations.

Traffic constable Rajkumar Sharma denied the allegations, saying the elderly man did not appear critically ill and that officers caused no unnecessary delay.

The incident has sparked calls for an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death.
