A Dedicated Public Servant: PM Modi Congratulates CP Radhakrishnan On Taking Oath As Vice President

On Friday, PM Modi congratulated CP Radhakrishnan on becoming the 15th Vice President of India, praising his service and commitment to democracy.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to CP Radhakrishnan as he assumed office as the 15th Vice President of India, lauding his enduring service to the nation and steadfast commitment to democratic principles.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Attended the oath-taking ceremony of Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji. A dedicated public servant, he has devoted his life to nation-building, social service and strengthening democratic values. Wishing him a successful Vice Presidential tenure, dedicated to the service of the people.”

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the morning ceremony.

Prominent leaders from across the political spectrum, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several senior ministers and parliamentarians, attended the event.

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also marked his presence at the leadership transition ceremony.

Radhakrishnan’s election to the post came after a clear victory in the Vice-Presidential poll, where he secured 452 first-preference votes.

His opponent, B Sudershan Reddy, supported by the opposition, polled 300 votes.

The outcome has been widely interpreted as an endorsement of Radhakrishnan’s steady and conciliatory approach to politics.

Before his new role, Radhakrishnan resigned as Governor of Maharashtra. His record, coupled with his decades-long association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), seen as decisive in drawing support across the political spectrum.

Born in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan began public life as a student leader before twice representing Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha.

He has previously served as Governor of Jharkhand, Telangana, and Maharashtra, in addition to holding charge as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

With his swearing-in, he also takes over as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Parliament.
