The ‘AI Impact Summit 2026’ concluded in the national capital on Saturday with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact.
As many as 88 countries and international organisations endorsed the document, marking a notable advance in multilateral collaboration on artificial intelligence.
The Declaration records a wide-ranging global consensus on harnessing AI to drive economic expansion and social advancement.
It affirms that AI must serve humanity at large. Guided by the ethos of ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya’, it stresses that technological gains should reach all sections of society.
The framework calls for stronger international coordination and deeper multi-stakeholder engagement.
It upholds respect for national sovereignty. It advocates accessible and trustworthy governance models for AI development and deployment.
The Declaration rests on seven core pillars that shape future cooperation.
Seven Pillars Framework
These include Democratising AI Resources; Economic Growth and Social Good; Secure and Trusted AI; AI for Science; Access for Social Empowerment; Human Capital Development; and Resilient, Efficient and Innovative AI Systems.
The text underlines AI’s transformative economic potential. It promotes open-source and accessible AI ecosystems.
AI calls for energy-efficient digital infrastructure. It highlights AI’s expanding application in science, governance and public service delivery. It reiterates the need for reinforced global collaboration.
The Declaration states that robust digital networks and affordable, meaningful connectivity form the foundation for effective AI deployment. Without such infrastructure, nations cannot unlock AI’s full promise.
Invoking the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, it recognises the need to enhance affordability and access to foundational AI resources.
It emphasises enabling all countries to design, adopt and implement AI solutions for their citizens.
Signatories took note of the Charter for the Democratic Diffusion of AI. The Charter serves as a voluntary and non-binding framework.
It aims to expand access to foundational AI tools, encourage locally relevant innovation and strengthen resilient AI ecosystems while respecting domestic laws.
The Declaration further affirms that secure and reliable AI systems are essential to public trust and long-term benefits.
It calls for the removal of structural barriers to AI research infrastructure. It supports international scientific partnerships to advance research and development.
The Summit, the document notes, will reinforce international cooperation and voluntary guiding principles to ensure AI contributes to a prosperous and inclusive global future.
