India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the national celebrations from the Red Fort amid tight security arrangements.
The historic occasion will feature several special programmes. For the first time, the venue will formally host the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’. The programme will mark 150 years of the National Song.
This year’s celebrations will focus on the energy, aspirations and contribution of ‘Yuva Shakti’ towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The programme will highlight the role of young Indians in driving the country’s development and shaping its future.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will receive PM Modi at the Red Fort.
The Prime Minister will inspect the Guard of Honour before hoisting the national flag, accompanied by a synchronised 21-gun salute.
Ahead of PM Modi’s address to the nation, Indian Air Force helicopters will conduct the traditional flower-petal shower over the venue.
The ceremony will then feature a performance of ‘Vande Mataram’ by around 2,500 NCC cadets and My Bharat volunteers, followed by the National Anthem.
Nearly 5,000 special guests will attend the Independence Day celebrations.
The invitees include entrepreneurs associated with the PM Mudra Yojana and street vendors supported under the PM SVANidhi scheme.
The celebrations will honour India’s freedom struggle and highlight youth participation and national development. They will focus on the country’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
