73-Year-Old Retired UP Cop Commits Suicide by Shooting Himself

A 73-year-old retired police officer, identified as Kailash Chand, reportedly died on Tuesday after allegedly shooting himself in the chest with a licensed revolver, according to officials. Additional DCP (North) Abijith R Shankar stated that preliminary investigations suggest Chand was grappling with several health issues, leading to severe mental stress and ultimately culminating in suicide.

Chand, who had retired from the position of deputy superintendent of police in 2010, had apparently succumbed to the pressures of his health condition, Shankar mentioned.

The police were alerted to the incident around 3 pm when Anshul Kumar, the caller and Chand’s nephew, reported that his maternal uncle had used his licensed weapon to inflict the fatal wound within his residence in the Gudumba area. Responding promptly, a police team along with forensic experts arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and conducted a thorough examination of the surroundings, Shankar explained. The investigation is ongoing, with the body undergoing post-mortem examination to ascertain further details, Shankar added.

The tragic event highlights the complexities of mental health issues faced by individuals, even in their retirement years. Authorities are working diligently to understand the circumstances surrounding Chand’s untimely demise and to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
